Current Legislative Issues

Active Legislation

Proposed Federal Assault Weapons Ban

Legislation has been introduced in Congress that would restrict the sale and possession of certain semi-automatic firearms based on cosmetic features rather than functionality.

Potential Impact:

  • Restricts law-abiding citizens' access to commonly-owned firearms
  • Creates confusion about which firearms are legal to own
  • May require registration or surrender of currently owned firearms
Urgent Action Needed

Universal Background Check Proposal

Legislation is being considered that would require background checks for all firearm transfers, including private sales and family transfers, with limited exceptions.

Potential Impact:

  • Creates de facto registry of firearm owners
  • Increases costs and bureaucracy for lawful transfers
  • Criminalizes common transfers between family and friends
